Richard Clarke 1814-1895 and Elizabeth Vernon 1817-1889

Richard and Elizabeth married in 1842 in South Molton.

Richard was a baker and farmer.

In 1851 they were living in 107 Barnstable Street, South Molton with 5 of their children, two other children were born between that date and 1861 by which time they had moved to 1 Barnstable Street, which is still a baker’s shop today.  He retired and lived next door in No 2.

Elizabeth Vernon was born in South Molton, and christened in a Methodist church. In the 1841 census she is recorded as living with her siblings in South St, her mother having died earlier that year.  Her father, James is listed in another address, Back Lane, with two other siblings.
