William Joyce Clarke 1886-1962

In 1891 William was living with his father in the Bakers shop. In 1901 at the age of 15 he was a boarder at school in Chulmleigh.

In 1904 aged 18 he married Lilian Hillier in Kennington, London.

By 1910 they had three children and separated, with a bitter dispute over maintenance.  Two of the children went to South Molton and lived with their Grandparents, William and Mary Clarke

He was in the military from 1915 to 1920 having enlisted in South Molton, giving his address as 5 North Street.

After the war he lived in Bristol and had other children, including Helen who’s mother died shortly after her birth and she lived with two aunts on her mother’s side.

He died in Reading in 1962
