George and Nance moved to Holway Green when he gave up farming and lived there until he died, when Nance moved to Holway Road close by,
The house above is the house Lelant where John and Freda lived with Rosemary and Jane. Named after somewhere George and Nance went on their honeymoon.
At Holway Green Nance made butter with milk from a cow that George kept. In the loft of the building now a garage above they stored apples and pears.
“I think Granny and Grandpa moved there from Fitzhead in 1944 (please tell me if I’m wrong). the cow I mentioned this afternoon was changed from time to time; it grazed the orchard (a couple of acres (??)) and the paddock another 2 acres at most. Also, it went up to the Stables and shared the grass up there with the horses owned by the Baron family – old Mr & Mrs Baron, their son Dan and daughters Betty and Kitty. I used to ride their ponies and the Barons were supplied with milk from Grandpa when there was a surplus and Granny had made butter. You see, Holway was my home with my mother until father came home from the war, then we went to Barnstaple and life changed.” Kit by email
