They were cousins, Mary Anne being the daughter of George Hawkings.
In the 1881 census he is listed as farming at Paradise Farm, with Mary Anne, George aged 2 and his daughter who had not yet been named at the age of 2 days. In the 1883 Post Office Directory they are listed at Yew Tree Farm, Berrow, which is not clear as they were back at Paradise later.
