In 1911 census Maurice was 30 single and was farming at Northam Farm. Also in the farm, Martha Champion, widow age 60. who is listed as having – Children born alive 6. Children stilll alive 5, his brother Frederick William Champion (26 single, born in Congresbury) and Hilda Maria Champion Baker, aged 17, niece of Martha, Daughter of Richard and Maria (Minnie) Baker.

In 1919 Edgar Hawkings, came out of the army and went to work at Poplar Farm, Worle, just outside Weston-super-Mare, which was the home of Maurice Champion and his wife Gladys. (From Denis Hawkings book). although the Kelly’s directory of that year has him farming at St George’s Banwell.

In 1939 Maurice gave his niece, Freda Hawkings, away at her marriage to John Andrew.
